A sad - and busy - welcome to winter

Our first winter was always going to be one we’d never forget, but as we approached the Farmstead for our long after-Christmas stay, we received the devastating news that my mom passed away. The heavy fog provided a somber backdrop for our grief, and the welcoming arms of the land and some newfound nature (we have goldfish?!) soothed us as we ushered in a New Year, with our hearts forever broken.

There was time to mourn, but not much time to pause — a lot was happening this month. The stairwell finally began to take shape, the shower tile went in, and our design plans started clicking beautifully into place. Furniture began to arrive (no more sleeping on the floor!), we broke ground on the sauna, and a new puppy started making herself right at home. <3

One of the most unexpectedly thrilling parts of watching the seasons shift for the first time was seeing the creek change with it. We had no idea what to expect or how high the water might rise, so when we arrived each time, the first thing we did was race down the hill to see where the waterline had reached. Each week, it told a new story — the land coming alive in its own rhythm, teaching us what it means to truly watch a place through its seasons.
