Spring inches in…

The Wedding Plan continues to be our primary focus, which means our attention has officially landed square on the barn. This building was originally constructed in the 1980s with a small apartment upstairs, but we’ve always envisioned it as a big, open space for weddings, gatherings, and whatever future farm projects or animals might find their way in.

I actually started mocking up plans for the barn just a month after we bought the property - hiring an engineer, drawing up the permit myself, and filling it with the county back in October of 2022. Since then, reality has demanded its revisions - between budget constraints, engineering surprises, and, well, life. With everything else on my plate (did I mention I also own a restaurant, manage a second event venue, have two kids, and am spearheading a renovation on our Portland house?), the barn has understandably taken a backseat.

But if we’re going to host a wedding or two this year, it’s time to bump this project to the top of the list.

While we methodically chip away at barn things, we’re also keeping busy on the land — I can be found battling blackberries on a near-daily basis — and turning the back guest room into an actual, cozy bedroom. We’re always looking for ways to make the property a little more functional, a little more comfortable, and a little more magical for our guests.
