Morels, Magnolia, and our first creek dips: Spring in Full Swing

Some things are becoming familiar — the dandelions and iris emerging in late April, the poppies closely behind, and the lilacs bursting as the leaves return to the Dawn Redwood. But some things still surprise us — and this year, it was the wisteria. WOWZA! What a show these vines put on for us. Perhaps in time we’ll understand why… a milder winter, less pruning, earlier sun? but for now, we’re simply appreciating the sight - and smell!!

Spring had a few other surprises in store as well: who knew we had morels? And how adorable are these honey mushrooms?!

Another first this season was having the time to enjoy small harvests. I finally harvested from the gorgeous pond-side magnolia tree, and Andria and I created the most beautiful magnolia syrup for one of her cocktails back at Bar West.

It’s thrilling to see these full-circle nature moments beginning to weave into our routines, reminding us why we fell in love with this land in the first place.
